Boombox Bros. makes The Knot's "2010 Best Of Weddings"
"We asked thousands of recent San Antonio brides what they really thought about their vendors. Here are the best San Antonio wedding venues, San Antonio wedding photographers, and more!"
Who makes the tastiest San Antonio wedding cakes? What are the top San Antonio bridal salons? Where are the most beautiful San Antonio wedding locations? Recent brides in San Antonio rated their wedding vendors, and here's who came out on top!
Boombox Bros. is extremely proud to announce that we made the 2010 Best of Weddings by The Knot magazine for the South Texas area (San Antonio/South Texas/Gulf Coast. We were the only Corpus Christi DJ company named, and all the rest were San Antonio groups. We proudly accept this award on behalf of DJ Mike Mo, DJ Johnny Hotcakes, and DJ Sol and we owe it to our clients for selecting us as their DJs for their most important day!
It's been a while since we've updated the site, other than our events. Over the past year we have kept busy at both night clubs and special events, and we're looking forward to another great year in 2010.
Mike Mo and Johnny Hotcakes are both doing events for Revolution and House of Rock. Mike Mo is at Revolution on Wednesday Nights and Johnny Hotcakes joins him on Fridays as the emceee. Johnny is also doing his own gigs at various spots around town including House of Rock. We also added DJ Sol to the roster almost a year ago and he's completed several special event gigs.
We've also purchased some new trussing that we're expecting to ship in soon. Our new trussing will allow us to do bigger and brighter lightshows, and we will offer basically three different lighting packages. The largest light show will have a truss that can span across most dance floors, and that will allow your guests to dance UNDER an incredible DMX programmed light show.
We are also proud to announce that Boombox Bros. now has the capability to mix music videos like you see many Night Club DJs doing. Many people can play music and videos, but not anyone can professionally and masterfully mix music like Boombox Bros.
Boombox Bros. would like to wish a happy birthday to the United State Marine Corp, and thank them for having us perform for their Birthday Ball. The event took place on November 8th, 2008 at the Omni Bayfront Hotel, and hosted approximately 600 guests. We have footage from the event for all to see, and you can tell it was an amazing time!
WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. — Former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and celebrity disc jockey DJ AM remained in critical but stable condition Monday with second- and third-degree burns after a plane crash on Friday, with both expected to make a full recovery.
Two of the musicians' close friends and the plane's pilot and co-pilot were killed when a Learjet crashed on takeoff at ColumbiaMetropolitanAirport in South Carolina.
Dr. Fred Mullins, medical director of the Joseph M. StillBurn Center, said the two suffered second- and third-degree burns but had no other injuries from the crash and are in overall good health.
Barker was burned on his torso and lower body and DJ AM, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, was burned on an arm and a portion of his scalp, according to a statement from the musicians' families released by the hospital. Such injuries can take a year to fully heal, however Mullins said he didn't think it would take that long.
Investigators said they want to speak with Barker and Goldstein for their accounts of the crash, including how they survived. One witness said he discovered the musicians in the street near the fiery wreck as they frantically tried to douse their burning clothes.
Barker and Goldstein had performed together under the name TRVSDJ-AM at a free concert in Columbia on Friday night. The show, which included performances by former Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell and singer Gavin DeGraw, drew about 10,000 people to a neighborhood near the University of South Carolina.
Barker, 32, was one of the more colorful members of the multiplatinum-selling punk rock band Blink-182, whose biggest album was 1999's CD "Enema of the State" and sold more than 5 million copies in the United States alone.
After Blink-182 disbanded in 2005, Barker went on to form the rock band (+44) -- pronounced "plus forty-four." He also starred in the MTV reality series "Meet the Barkers" with his then-wife, former Miss USA Shanna Moakler. The show documented the former couple's lavish wedding and home life. Their later split, reconciliation and subsequent breakup made them tabloid favorites.
Goldstein, 35, is a popular DJ for hire who at one time was engaged to Nicole Richie and dated singer/actress Mandy Moore. While he became a gossip favorite for his romances, he draws respect from music aficionados for his DJ skills.
Barker and Goldstein performed as part of the house band at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this month.
Pilot Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills, Calif., and co-pilot James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, Calif., died in the crash. Also killed were Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City, Calif., and Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles. Baker was an assistant to Barker and Still was a security guard for the musician.
A coroner said Monday that the pilot and co-pilot died from smoke inhalation and burns, and the two passengers were killed by impact-related injuries.
Federal officials said Sunday that the crew thought a tire blew and tried to abort the takeoff but could not stop the plane.

Boombox Bros. "Puttin' On the Ritz" and Helping the Community
I snapped these pictures when I was downtown recently. It's a sign thanking supporters for a clean-up that happened some months back at the historic Ritz Theatre. Boombox Bros. came out to play some music while volunteers with the Junior League of Corpus Christi and CC PATCH helped to clean up the old downtown building. It's always a nice feeling to help and it's always great to receive recognition. If you're ever in the downtown area, then check out this sign!
Demand for vinyl up, while that of CDs down

I want my LPs.
Like a broken record, that was the demand Justin Pico heard over and over... and over again at his Disc Go Round music store.
"It was surprising, too, because it was the younger crowd -- mainly under 30," Pico said.
Daily requests for albums on vinyl prompted the local independent retailer to relocate in April to a larger venue. At its new location on Airline Road, Disc Go Round's inventory includes as many LPs as CDs.
"Vinyl is about 20 percent of our sales," Pico said.
It's the same song and dance wherever you go. Vinyl distributors are having a tough time keeping albums in stock, Pico said.
"The first month that I ordered (from the distributor), there was so much more available," he said.
From old classics to hot new titles, LPs are popular with the younger set.
"I had an 11-year-old girl come in and buy a Ramones album," Pico said.
According to the Recording Industry Association of America, manufacturers' shipments of LPs jumped more than 36 percent from 2006 to 2007 to more than 1.3 million. Shipments of CDs dropped more than 17 percent during the same period to 511 million, as they lost some ground to digital formats.
The resurgence of vinyl centers on a long-standing debate over analog versus digital sound. Digital recordings capture samples of sound and place them very close together as a complete package that sounds nearly identical to continuous sound to many people.
Analog recordings on most LPs are continuous, which produces a truer sound -- though, paradoxically, some new LP releases are being recorded and mixed digitally but delivered analog.
Some purists also argue that the compression required to allow loudness in some digital formats weakens the quality as well.
But despite rising interest and sales, the LP isn't going to muscle out CDs or iPod soon.
Nearly 450 million CDs were sold last year, versus just under 1 million LPs, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Based on the first three months of this year, Nielsen says vinyl album sales could reach 1.6 million in 2008.
"I don't think vinyl is for everyone; it's for the die-hard music consumer," said Jay Millar, director of marketing at United Record Pressing, a Nashville based company that is the nation's largest record pressing plant.
Many major artists -- Elvis Costello, R.E.M. and others -- are issuing LPs and encouraging fans to check out their albums on vinyl.
Some artists package vinyl and digital versions of their music together, including offers for free digital downloads along with the record.
An avid music fan himself, Millar says he has moved to vinyl in recent years.
"Once I got my first iPod ... I'm looking at my wall of CDs and trying to justify it," Millar said. "The things I like -- the artwork, the liner notes, the sound quality -- it dawns on me, those are things I like better on vinyl."
He welcomed back the pops and clicks, even some of the scratches.
"I like that fact that it's imperfect in a lot of ways. Live music is imperfect too," Millar said.

A New York bride and groom arrested at their wedding reception after the bride trashed a set of conga drums in a spat with the band have pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct.
The bride was also accused of breaking a speaker in a dispute over the music at the April 5 reception. Fabiana Reyes has been sentenced in Village Court to the six days she already spent in jail. The 41-year-old also paid the band $1,500 for the damage.
Her 42-year-old husband and their 21-year-old daughter were accused of interfering with Reyes' arrest. Elmo and Helen Fernandez pleaded guilty Thursday. Police used stun guns on both during the fracas.
The daughter says the couple were legally married in 1986 but delayed their church wedding until last month.
Have you ever been to a night club, mega-Church, or concert and noticed how the lights were in sync with colors and movement? In order to make all the lights move or change colors in sync, someone had to program the lights - most likely DMX lights.
Boombox Brothers recently acquired a DMX light controller. This allows us to control our DMX lights and create programs for our events. If we want some of the lights to move up, and some other lights to move down, we can program them to do so. If we want to have the color combination of blues with hot pinks, we can program them to do it. Tonight, Curtis Rock met with DJ Skip of Skip Entertainment for some programming training. Skip is a lighting expert, especially with DMX programming. Boombox Bros. is excited to offer this exciting value to our clients, as we believe programmed DMX lights are more clean and classy.
